How your money is protected
We never lend the money you hold with us, and we never use it for our own purposes. All deposits received are held by Moneybase Ltd in safeguarded client accounts with carefully selected third parties. Unlike banks, Moneybase is not allowed by law to use, lend or re-invest client’s funds. Therefore, in the unlikely event of insolvency, your funds held by Moneybase Ltd are covered in their entirety. Since we safeguard all your funds, Moneybase is not required by the law to adhere to the Depositor Compensation Scheme (DCS) in Malta. These effectively protect a limited amount (€100,000) of your funds in case of default. In contrast, Moneybase is obliged to protect your funds in their entirety.
When you make an investment, funds are transferred from your payment account with Moneybase Ltd to your investment account with Calamatta Cuschieri Investment Services Ltd, which is licensed by the MFSA and a member of the Maltese Investor Compensation Scheme. Calamatta Cuschieri Investment Services Ltd will periodically transfer your unused money balances in your investment account to your payment account with Moneybase Ltd. Money and investments held with CCIS are protected under the Scheme in line with the Investor Compensation Scheme Regulations (S.L. 370.09).
