Moneybase launches new cards featuring Malta’s heritage

written on June 16, 2026

Calamatta Cuschieri Moneybase has officially launched a new card collection, introducing two new physical Moneybase Mastercard designs and a selection of new virtual card options available through the Moneybase app.

The collection includes a new in-house design developed by the Moneybase team, a light blue card featuring the Maltese cross, which also forms part of the Moneybase logo, alongside a second physical card showcasing the winning design from the company’s 2025 Card Design Competition, a design representing the Valletta skyline.

Virtual card options featuring finalist designs from the competition are also now available to all clients instantly through the app. The designs draw on Malta’s cultural heritage, with one featuring the Upper Barrakka Gardens, the historic public gardens in Valletta that overlook the Grand Harbour, and the other featuring the luzzu, the traditional Maltese fishing boat recognised as one of the island’s most enduring cultural symbols.

The new collection replaces the previous Moneybase card design, giving clients the ability to choose between two distinct physical cards for the first time. The introduction of community-created virtual card options further expands the range of cards available to Moneybase clients.

“Our community has always played an important role in shaping the Moneybase experience, and this initiative was an extension of that philosophy.” said Julian Catania, Head of Marketing at Calamatta Cuschieri Moneybase. “We wanted to create something that reflected the creativity of our clients while staying true to our approach to building products around people. Seeing the journey from submission to community vote, to a card in our clients’ hands and devices is incredibly rewarding. What stood out the most was that without any direction from us, many of the designs that resonated strongly with our community drew inspiration from Maltese culture and heritage, something our clients clearly value and connect with.”

The launch follows continued growth across the Moneybase platform as the company expands its offering and continues investing in features that combine everyday financial services with a more personalised experience. The new card collection is now available to all Moneybase users.
